Thursday Bay Area Blowers Showcase at SJSU ~ Free!
Events scheduled for the exciting four day "exchange" kick off at 10am at the San Jose State University Glass Area. Thursday will be a "Local Showcase" preconference event, free and open to the public. Glassblowing demos will be ongoing from 10am-8pm by talented blowers such as Pamina Traylor, Joe Carioti, Elin Christopherson, Jerry Kong, Eric Eisserling, Chuck Vanetta and others, who will work in pairs.
CGE Registration table will be open 10am-8pm in the SJSU Industrial Studies Building.
Friday at SJSU (check-in 8:30 - 11 am)
Friday the fun continues at SJSU with opening greetings 9-9:30 am. The day will include a roll-up demo by Jonathan Schmuck, blowing demo by Nancy Callan, collaborative blowing demo by George Jercich and Jerry Catania, casting/blowing demo by Susan Holland, torch working demos, slide lecture by Robin Cass, panels on Alternate Processes, "Collaborative Glass studios", "Energy Efficiency in the Studio", and an "Educators' Discussion" (which is open to the public).
On Friday evening a Wearable Glass Art Fashion show and Artists Reception in the Morris Dailey Auditorium will treat guests to a high energy Fashion show of the wildest and most original Wearable Glass Art Creations ever to be assembled on the West Coast! Laura Donefer of Quebec, Canada, who was the creator of the Glass Fashion show concept, will be our guest of honor for the event. A few choice pieces that were debuted at the Corning show will perform an encore. Don't miss this!
Saturday at SJSU (check-in Noon - 6 pm)
Saturday's events at SJSU 9-5 pm will include a slide lecture “A World of Glass “ by Honorary Awardee Marvin Lipofsky, slide lecture by Laura Donefer, hot shop demos by Robin Cass, Paul DuSomma and Marsha Blaker, torch working demo by Sue Ellen Fowler, neon demo by Bill Concannon, roll-up cold working demo, slumping and fusing demo by Phil Teefe, glass working videos by artist Val Sanders and a panel on "Alternatives After School" including Arlon Baylis, John Leighton and Joe Cariati. The Resource room and the auction preview room will be open for your pleasure. A participants's slide show will give you a chance to show the community what you've been working on. Saturday night Glass Auction and Party is an opportunity to let your hair down and meet other glass enthusiasts while contributing to a worthy cause, the CGE. A special tribal Bellydance performance by Tribe Badir will kick off the party with music and dancing.
Sunday at Ohlone College (check-in 8:30 -11 am)
Sunday, Ohlone College in Fremont will hose the Exchange. We begin at 9:00 with a hosted breakfast, followed by demonstrations in casting with Judy Hill, torchwork sculpture by Bennett Battaile, and beadmaking with Jeff Rogers. Clifford Rainey will present a slide show, and a panel on "The Business of Glass Art" will address issues ranging from working with galleries and collectors to marketing your work via the internet. The Resource room will move to Fremont for Sunday's events.
Sunday afternoon, from 1:30-3:30 the Olive Hyde Art Gallery, one block from the Ohlone Campus, will host the opening reception for "California Glass Exchange: One Week of Glass", a juried exhibit from the programs at San Jose State University, California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco State University, and Ohlone College. Wearable Art Fashion Show & Artist Reception~

Friday's evening event of the 2002 CGE will be an Artist's Reception and Wearable Art Fashion Show inspired by the Canadian glass artist, Laura Donefer (who will be there!) this exciting event will be held at the beautiful Morris Dailey Auditorium on the San Jose State University campus (shown right).
The Wearable Glass Art Fashion show is a unique concept that is challeging glass artists to conquor previously unknown horizons. Combining the element of glass with the concept of a garment is bringing fashion to "the cutting edge". Guests will be treated to a high energy Fashion show of the wildest and most original Wearable Glass Art Creations ever to be assembled on the West Coast! Demonstrations
Thursday, Friday and Saturday demonstrations will be held on the second floor of the SJSU Industrial Studies Building rooms 237 and 241 in the northeast side of the SJSU campus, near 9th Street and San Fernando. (Industrial Studies Building is identified as #32 on the campus map). Hot Shop Phone (408) 924-4146 (for emergencies only).

The Auction and Party will be held at the SJSU Women's Club 75 South 11th St (between Santa Clara & San Fernando street) in San Jose*. We would love this to be a party where you can really let your hair down, so we're working extra hard to find a space conducive to our vision. We'll have some light nosh, and Middle Eastern Tribal dance entertainment by Tribe Badir. Then we'll launch the evening with a rowdy auction, eat, and shake your booty to some groovy music.
*Because of extremly limited parking, we encourage you to park at SJSU and walk two blocks to the Women's Club.

On Sunday afternoon from 1:30 - 3:30, the Olive Hyde Art Gallery in Fremont is hosting "California Glass Exchange: One Week of Glass", a juried student and faculty exhibit from SJSU, CCAC, SFSU and Ohlone College.
CGE Event Registration
The registration fee for the entire conference (three day event) is $50.00 US (pre-register by 3/1/02), $60.00 US after 3/1/02. Tickets available at the door.
Daily passes for $20.00 can be purchased at the door.
(Sunday Registration at Ohlone College from 8:30-11:00 in Building 4 foyer).
Tickets for the Artist's Reception and Wearable Art Fashion Show only are available for $15.00 US at the door (no registration required).
Due to limited studio space and a desire to make each experience meaningful,
space is limited to 200. Register early to reserve your space at this exciting event.
